Aqueon Fluorescent Strip Light 24 Inch Review

Same complaint as everyone who made the purchase. The ballast burns out or flickers and a light bulb that does not burn to the end creates a black ring. This is my second replacement. I'm looking for a replacement.

Fluorescent tubes are hard to come by. LEDs do not replace the sun as the light is very blue and does not generate heat. I use this on a turtle not a fish and she needs that kind of light. It works and fits great, glad I found it!

Update #2 May 7, 2018 Purchased October 10, 2016. Decommissioned late April 2018. Update #1: 7-25-17. Everything was fine when he worked, but this is the second whose ballast has deteriorated. The first lasted 8 months from Petsmart. Aqueon guaranteed it.

I ordered this hood at the end of October 2017. Now, six months later, the "ballast” that lights the bonnet no longer works. It seems to me that such a product should last for several years, not several months. There's not much I can do about it at the moment, but this is definitely a product to avoid if you're looking for a replacement aquarium cover.

I have ordered this aquarium lighting several times. We have had an aquarium for many years and have always used this type of lighting. Only in the last three years has there been a problem with the lighting. I've ordered this brand several times and I'll be happy if they last a year. I have an LED strip and really didn't like the color of the light or the fact that the light strip didn't sit directly on the glass at the top of the tank.

Ballast failed after 5 months on one of two strip lamps bought in autumn 2018. I decided to take another chance. Revain delivered the purchased strip of light to the next-door neighbor's porch. They were out of town and I found a (damn) wet box after a thunderstorm. The new light bar seems to work well, I hope it lasts more than 5 months (at least one other review mentions the short ballast life). Pricey at $42, especially if it's prone to crashes.

I'm so glad I was able to find another fluorescent aquarium light! This works great and solved my problem. Now I have time to think about how to switch to LED later, unless I buy another one as a spare. Fluorescent bulbs for these lamps are still sold commercially, but I couldn't find the lamp anymore. I spent time and money looking locally for a new light, then attempted to repair my light and then bought a used one which broke immediately. I finally did what I needed to do and bought this…

I ordered this light which was advertised as an all glass aquarium light but is the Aqueon brand. The delivery was very quick. I ordered it on 11/19/2017 and it was delivered on 11/22/2017. He only worked three months. I bought a new lightbulb over the weekend after it burned out, but the new lightbulb is weak or flickers like in a horror movie. These lights on the hood are perfect for my aquarium as the tank was originally a watercolor kit. Unfortunately, their value has gone down over the years. At the moment I buy one hood mount a year for a 55 gallon tank requiring two of these which usually sell for $50 each. They are not designed to encourage easy do-it-yourself fixes. It seems something always goes wrong, I know for sure that in one instance something shorted out and smoked in the ballast. I just opened up my new replacement…
