Design needs improvement - DO NOT recommend.

In a nutshell: the collar is well made and easy to put on. However, there are serious design flaws that have caused me to stop using it. The parts that connect the serrated part of the collar are made of flexible leather and will become more flexible over time. This becomes a major problem as one or both sides of the collar will bend outwards meaning the pins will be pointing outwards and not making contact with the dog's neck as intended. This is becoming more and more common as the leather parts wear out and allow for easy curling. To make matters worse, the quick-release buckles and leather bridge take up a lot of space normally reserved for pens. The direct result is that the teeth present there are mostly on the sides of the dog's neck. This is far from ideal and reduces the effectiveness of the Spiked Collar. The fit is loose and sloppy, although the tines have been removed to reduce size, making the lack of tines worse. My dog easily dropped this collar several times by lowering his head and pulling back, keeping me on the leash mid-air. For reference, I have a 100 pound American Bulldog with a broad, muscular neck. I'll be going back to either the traditional Herm Sprenger or an earlier quick release model with a snap lock and full set of pins. Don't waste your money, you will regret your purchase.
