I have a fiberglass shower tray. We have hard water and it quickly (e.g. in a couple of weeks) forms a brown foam on the walls of the bathtub and shower. If I cover it with dish soap and rub it very hard it will come off but it will take a lot of strength and effort. I was hoping this would save me the trouble, but it takes about 4 times longer to turn it white again than handbrushing, and it's not as brilliantly white as it looks after handbrushing have brushed. I'm keeping it so one day I can bathe and shower again, I can use it every day and maybe it will stop the buildup. I think it's like an electric toothbrush. It cleans, but only very lightly soiled items, not soiled items. Cleaning your tub every day should help. (I would, but I work 80 hours a week and have other things to do.)
