Review on Moen 900 001 4 Inch Smart Shutoff by Ryan Carter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The product is of high quality and has already paid for itself!

Okay I did a lot of research to find the best water/leak detection system available today. I finally decided to try Moen's Flo because it had great reviews on everything I could find about Flo. I'm an engineer and I'm very picky about what I buy and I pay attention mainly to the quality but also to the price. I also love smart devices (lights, alarms and yes, water sensors) but I needed a whole house leak detection system and an automatic shut off! Water damage is annoying and we know many families who have returned home after an absence to find water has leaked out of their front door followed by months of renovations and hotel stays, insurance claims etc. It's 2020 and it's time for something to prevent natural disasters ! Okay, enough of what you already know. Flo arrived from Revain yesterday (Friday) and I woke up this morning wanting to install it. Pre-installation: You know the product will be good when it arrives, and the packaging is nice with clear instructions. Well I opened the box and the instructions were easy, set up and account with the app (I use an iPhone) and the app is great. Easy setup with Flo device, Wi-Fi and Flo app. Installation: I've considered installing it myself, but I'm not keen on working with plumbers. I decided to hire Dutton Plumbing and called them at 9am and they were here at 11am. I won't list prices here because I'm not reviewing a plumbing company (although they did a great job and love Flo from Moen too). A fair price for excellent work and the certainty that everything is perfectly assembled. See photos. 30 minutes or so and they were done. They even hung out and helped with the app to make sure Flo's experience with the app was good. After installation: The plumbers left and I noticed the water pressure increased. 80,90,100. at 108 psi I shut off the water with Flo and turned off the city's main valve. I turned the water back on and the pressure rose again. see picture with 83psi. but it still went back up (I didn't have a screenshot at 108 but I was so excited I didn't take a screenshot). Anyway, I suspected I had a bad water pressure regulator because the faucets splashed a lot when turned on. I went to the local plumber, bought a new regulator and replaced it in 10 minutes. The water turned on and now the pressure is stable at 50psi (or so) and that's fine! So Flo already identified a HUGE problem and now it's solved! Crisis averted! I am very happy with it so far and the app is excellent! Summary: It works and I am happy that such a high quality device/app works so well and now it is by far the smartest and most useful smart device. in the house. Support: I haven't rated the support yet because I don't need to contact support yet. However, the website and app support pages look good and are packed with information. Protection plan: There is a protection plan for $5 per month and I have 30 days off. So I'm not going to look at that part of the service just yet. The next day I woke up at 6am to find that 93 gallons of water had been used since midnight! I see water popping up every 4 minutes for 5-10 seconds or so. found a toilet that worked (with a leaky valve) and wasted water! I turned off the toilet and fixed it, went to Home Depot to get parts and fixed it. Flo saved me again! I'm not usually thrilled with a product but I have to say it's a great item! I just want to point out that Flo didn't warn me that the toilet was running out of water, I just noticed that 93 gallons have been used since midnight. Flo is still in "learning mode" learning about household water usage habits. It takes 7-10 days for Flo to automatically shut down and send leak alerts. For more information on incline mode, search the web for Flo by Moen and learn mode.
