If you have a light with a transparent appearance (where motion should be detected) on the lamp, these things can save you money and hassle. Leave the light switch on and when someone approaches, the light bulb will detect movement and illuminate for at least a minute. If your device has a colored or translucent sphere, they won't work without the clear or transparent motion they're supposed to detect. I actually replaced the old shade so mine still works, but be warned, it was worth it. This product worked great on another fixture because it's hanging from a higher spot and although it has colored glass shades on four sides, it's open at the bottom. This light is great for security and for me when trying to put the key in the lock.
