Inexpensive tube magic for home audio

An excellent tube buffer/preamp for anyone who has long wanted to delve into the tube world. I have 3 of these now, each on different systems with different mods. I will buy a fourth and a fifth. First, GE JAN5654W bulbs are generally recommended for a reason. They're inexpensive and very easy to find, but they offer a significant improvement in the overall sonic dynamics, clarity, soundstage, natural warmth, and detail you'd expect from vacuum tubes. The Soviet military 6Zh1-PV are a bit more expensive but still my favorite sounding tubes and I highly recommend them. Second, another easy and inexpensive upgrade is the power supply. A 12V 1AMP power supply is included and works perfectly. Switching to an inexpensive 12V 3 AMP power supply is easy. Third, for those who want to take some basic tools and disassemble the device, AIYIMA 6J1 has some potential for hot rodding, mainly in op amp and electrolytic capacitor replacement/upgrade. Very easy to make and cheap. Op-amps: These are very easy to swap out, require no soldering, and can give you the greatest improvement in sound quality, even more so than the tubes themselves. Just uninstall and install the new ones, making sure the dots match the old ones. The OPA2134PA op amps sound fantastic in my systems and are only $6 each and so far this is my favorite non-MUSES02 chip. The almighty MUSES02 chip costs $45. everyone. That's a lot if you need or want two of these. But. You get what you pay for. Discrete amps like the Sparcos are also available but cost even more. Capacitors: If you can use a soldering iron, take out the two blue electrolytic capacitors and replace them with WIMA MKS4F041005B00JSSD foil caps. They're only a dollar each, and the difference in sound is ridiculous. When purchasing replacement parts, I recommend Digikey or Mouser. Conclusion: cheap lamp magic!
