First of all, the current product is super shiny spray-painted metal. Few look like the photo. The actual quantity I received is 108 pieces. Haven't decided yet whether to keep it or not. To use them I would have to buy several colors of metallic spray paint (which is expensive) and try to make them matte enough to look realistic. I wanted to use these to make hairpins for my niece's stockings. I definitely can't do that with this product as it was delivered. The bright paint finish makes the gears look like plastic. Update: Read a similar product review that soaking in vinegar makes them more realistic. Went like clockwork. Toss in vinegar for a few minutes, rinse, dry and leave overnight. In the morning they looked a bit mottled, less shiny and "more real". I then coated them with clear coat to "freeze" the look. Upgrade from 1 to 2 stars.
