You button the top of a dress, pin up a sweater, or roll up the hem of a shirt to keep it where you want it. I chose all three for maximum flexibility. They work much better than a safety pin to hold the neckline of a dress or blouse together. They coordinate well enough to be used together. Excellent purchase
