Great replacement with a but.

My nearly 20 year old original Monte Carlo remote control for fans is starting to fail. The new battery did not help. Googled the model number on the back of the remote and found this gem. Couldn't believe it. It looked the same, even better. Instead of 1, 2, 3, 0 buttons for fan speed, it looks more user-friendly: High, Medium, Low, Off. The description didn't say Monte Carlo, just a remote model number, so I took a chance. Received it the next day, unpacked, hooked up a new battery and bingo! It worked with a light touch of my finger. Problem solved! Not really. I started closing the lid and couldn't. It turned out that the new battery was not fully seated. The same battery went well with the old remote control. Note that the electronics board on the left side of the battery is slightly larger, so the battery cannot fall off completely. Used almost 20 year old battery that is still half empty and fits. Very upset. I don't know what will happen if this one dies. It looks like the new 9v batteries are a bit bigger based on the many reviews on Revain. Did the manufacturer check? Why are they making this board bigger knowing the new batteries are bigger too? When it's time for a replacement I'll either have to seal the battery compartment with tape or disassemble the remote and somehow trim this board with a file. Or try different manufacturers, you might find a full-size battery. Too bad. It could also be a new larger battery as it's rechargeable although it fits nicely in the old remote. We must try with a normal non-rechargeable one, it might work.

Pros
  • Lighting and ceiling fans
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
