Review on Tripp Lite Inverter Compact PV150 by Brian West

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I now have 3 PV 150 inverters. Everything is fine.

Beautiful unit, not cheap. I will look at this brand when I buy a larger inverter. I have 2 now, both work fine. The second is connected directly to the power terminal (with a fuse, of course). I use it daily. The first is a battery powered UPS system that is always on when I need it. Now I have 3 PV150 inverters. 1 is hardwired to the UPS system, 1 is hardwired to my truck's cab and the last one I bought is for use in other vehicles. Everything is still fine. The one in my truck is used daily. Just a note for anyone looking at 120v inverters. The power consumed on the 12V inverter side is more than 10 times the power consumed on the 120V side. The weak link in these systems is the cigarette lighter. I have 3 in my truck, only one for higher amperage, the one where the cigarette lighter goes. The other two are for accessories like a USB converter or a 12V DVD player. If your cigarette plug gets hot when using the inverter, it must be hard-wired. IMHO a 150 watt inverter is the absolute maximum that can be used in a cigarette. Cigarette lighter. However, I recommend that 150w inverters are hardwired.

Pros
  • beautiful thing
Cons
  • poorly thought out
