A few compromises, but ready to ignore for the price.

I installed this unit in my 2012 Impala for 3 months. Here's my take on my experience so far: Pros: First, I LOVE the huge 10 inch screen! I also like Android Auto and the ability to use Waze on the big screen. It's a very well built and solid device and the floating screen is solid and doesn't vibrate or shake at all! Installation on the Impala was very easy. I was able to easily install it into my Impala dashboard using the standard install kit. I moved the screen position down one notch to clear the dash vents and leave enough room to access the HVAC controls. The RP5-GM31 PAC plugged into the ATOTO easily, and behind the HVAC -Controls of the Impala had enough space to mount the control box. The operating system runs very smoothly and without crashes. The touchscreen is very sensitive to touch and swipe movements. The FM tuner works just as well as you would expect. You can use the tuner very easily while Android Auto is running, and it's very easy to switch between the tuner and the AA Audio app. Android Auto works without the law, and physical buttons at the bottom of the screen are a bonus for switching between tracks, stations, etc. I particularly like that the radio doesn't default back to FM if you unplug your phone after using the Audio app on AA. I bought and installed an ATOTO backup camera and love how you can turn on the camera while driving down the road. The USB port on the side is conveniently located and you can easily connect a flash drive with MP3 files. The bluetooth streaming function is flawless if you don't need AA or ACP as is the phone interface. Audio fidelity with the internal amplifier is about the same as the stock Impala radio. Nothing outstanding, but far from terrible. The equalizer is much better than the standard radio and has several presets to choose from. In addition, you can customize the equalizer curve to your liking. The radio doesn't support 2 simultaneous Bluetooth connections, but I can still pair a second phone to the vehicle's built-in OnStar Bluetooth call, allowing me to receive calls from both phones. ATOTO support was responsive and willing to help resolve any issues I encountered. Cons: In direct sunlight, the image from the rear camera is a bit difficult to see. I bought and installed a SiriusXM tuner but couldn't get it to work. I first connected my stock XM antenna to the tuner using an adapter and an extension cable (to run from the stock tuner to the dash). After not getting this setup to work, I tried the magnetic roof antenna that came with the SXM. tuner, and still got the message "Check Tuner". I've sent a signal update on every mod, so I'm pretty sure it's either an ATOTO or SXM tuner. I've since given up trying to get the SXM tuner to work and have been streaming SXM to my phone (which is fine if I'm in an area with cell coverage, not so much if I'm in the outback). I contacted customer service and they said they would contact me once the engineers found a solution (although they're still waiting!) ATOTO. I spent a lot of time trying to find the right attitude. To get the controller to work I had to put a 3.5mm plug into the RP5-GM31's PAC jack and also connect the PAC's blue wire to the KEY + ATOTO's brown wire (and set the PAC to # 7-put others.) Then I had to set the radio to "Custom" and program the volume to the "Source" button and the volume to the "Next Track" button. All other 5 buttons sent the same signal to ATOTO, so I set the "Channel +" button to activate the rear camera (pressing the other 5 buttons on the steering wheel starts the camera!). Again, this isn't a problem with the radio, but here with the ATOTO camera itself, the camera's frame rate is terrible! It's literally like 10 frames per second! The only reason I switched to this camera from my old Autovox camera is the ability to activate it at any time in addition to activating when reversing (I tried to do this with the wiring in my Autovox but the wiring harness for the ATOTO camera is complete Another). and getting Autovox to work proved impossible.) Another radio-unrelated issue: Android Auto crashes intermittently (it happens about as often on my wife's 2016 Cruze with Stock AA, so I don't blame ATOTO.) ATOTO recovers quickly and picks up where it left off. Consider the $220 price tag overall. Whatever the cost, I'm willing to ignore the small compromises it has, and most of the compromises are with the PAC module, the camera, and the SXM tuner. The radio itself was outstanding. I would be willing to pay a few hundred more if ALL these issues were resolved. It remains to be seen how long the radio will last and I will update this review accordingly.
