I've done a lot of research on using an external 4K monitor for photo and video editing on my 2018 15" MacBook Pro. I was expecting a vastly improved resolution. However, in my layman's opinion there is no difference in resolution compared to a MacBook Pro and 27" 4K monitor. Everything looks great on the big screen, especially 4K and 5K videos from YouTube. I've also connected a Dell desktop computer running Windows 2010, but I'm having trouble using a VGA to HDMI adapter or Displayport cable. The monitor couldn't see the computer and I don't think there was a problem with the cables. Finally solved the problem of detecting a direct HDMI-HDMI connection between computer and monitor. I got a lot of help from Dell techs and Apple support. The reason I went with Dell was the three year warranty and support compared to the LGUK850-W which only has a one year warranty. I also liked the Dell's design and solid stand more than the LG.
