Review on πŸ”₯ Fostar 2PCS Upgrade Ferro Rod Flint Fire Starter: High-Quality 1/2 Inch X 5 Inch Thick Fire Steel Rod with Scraper & Lanyard Hole. Ideal for Camping, Hiking, Survival by Steven Pankey

Basically good refractory steel, useless firing pin

Received refractory steel today and here are a relative newbie's thoughts: a large chunk of paint removed. Others may have their own methods of doing this. *DO NOT* go into a wilderness/survival situation with one of these rods (or most other ferro rods) straight out of the box! Before you see the rest of the comments, yes I removed the paint and the rod itself can create sparks.2. Here's my issue with the pole: There's a lanyard hole, and that's fine. Unfortunately, the hole is too small for the 550 lb paracord that is very popular with outdoor enthusiasts (I personally have a paratinder line with built in tinder thread that Revain sells for a better price than most of its competitors). I had to take a 1/4" drill bit and widen the hole to fit the paracord. DO THIS ON CONCRETE MATERIAL AND AWAY FROM FLAMMABLE MATERIAL as this will create some pretty spectacular sparks. Paracord is required after drilling out the hole and enough structural strength remains in the stem too.can give lots of sparks using various rocksand even a simple steel bottle opener you might have in your kitchen but the striker only gives sparks occasionally and they are small in size Compare to the shower of sparks you see these wands on youtube I can make big sparks with the right rock but not with the striker on, no idea what I'm doing wrong but for now the striker is not recommended.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Safety
