Apologies to grandma for her smelly towels

I hardly ever write reviews but this review is valid and I have to say I was wrong and found something through a misunderstanding from my childhood. So hold on and let me give you a quick backstory on how I found this product and how amazing it turned out and why I should apologize to my grandma. When I was a kid, my grandmother's towels and washcloths always smelled funny. I thought it was urine. I hated using them. When I left home I even told people about it, it has affected my life so much. Not long ago my favorite cleanser changed its formula and I didn't like the smell anymore so I was on the hunt for smelling towels. again good. I started using delicious fabric softener and everything was going fine until it went bad. Gradually, my towels and washcloths started to smell like my grandmother's! I was panicking, how can this be? I'm not old, I don't smell like urine, do I? What's going on here? So I do what most people do, use hot water and more fabric softener. It gets worse. noooo! Now the dog steals my smelly washcloths and hides them all over the house. I thought I needed help online so a quick search turns up borax. Interesting because I have a box that I used to use to get rid of ants and I currently use it to clean sinks, bathtubs, toilets and showers. Hm. The directions say to use 1 cup white vinegar and 1 cup borax. Gross is my first thought, vinegar! They smell so good that the dog loves them. I decided I had nothing to lose but declined the vinegar. The directions on the box say to use 1/2 cup to sanitize. I used a measuring cup but didn't pay much attention to it. Once I got past 3/4 I probably poured a cup to not be sure I frantically pressed that hot water button, ran and hoped for the best. When the cycle ended I was right there to do a smell test. I was very excited, I didn't smell, not even detergent. Very impressive. They just smell clean. Now the actual test: towel and washcloth are wet. Holy#$&" I was ready to cry! no pungent odor, no sour/urine odor, nothing. I've left the washcloth on the counter for an hour and it still hasn't stunk, although it usually throws me out of the bathroom. I think this thing was literally chasing me, it was so gross. Now back to grandma. It turns out that too much fabric softener creates a barrier and waterproofs your towels so they never get clean and odors just get trapped behind the fabric softener slime. The borax removes the fabric softener from your towels and makes them more absorbent again. (I did research) Who knew? Not me, not my grandmother. My grandmother faced the same dilemma as me, and since I was a spoiled child, I didn't know about it. I assumed it was old and just smelled. I am ashamed. Now she's gone and I can't personally apologize and tell her about this wonderful product. I'm sorry grandma. So please, if you've made it this far in this review, I assume you're looking for a solution to something amazing this product is doing. To attempt!
