Review on Audio-Technica ANC7b-SViS QuietPoint Noise-Cancelling Headphones with In-Line Mic and Control by Jay Campbell

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great alternative to Bose (no really)

I've tried several active noise canceling headphones over the years. I haven't owned Bose headphones yet, but at least tried them on in the store. I could never justify the price even though they may be next - little by little I was slowly moving up the price scale. Anyway I have a pair of Audio-Technica monitor headphones which are fantastic and after a lot of research I settled on the ATH-ANC7B. The fit is fine. I have a big head and need to expand them as much as possible. They fit my head well, which helps with passive noise cancellation, but they were initially uncomfortable for that reason. I've disassembled them a bit since then, but they still barely fit my pasta. Know what's going on. The ANC is pretty good, better than the Sony and JVC models I've had. Does it silence everything? No, but so does the Bose I tried on in the store. On an airplane (my main reason for buying) I can significantly reduce ambient noise but still hear the crew. Music sounds just as good, if not better, with ANC on. The battery life is amazing (a AAA). The build quality is also good. I specifically chose this model because of the hard case that came with it. It also comes with two audio cables and I love that I can unplug the cable and continue using the ANC-only headphones. I tend to my electronics like an OCD and expect that if the tight headband doesn't fail one day, they'll keep working. If you're looking for good noise-cancelling headphones but just can't afford $250 more, they work well and they come from a company that knows what they're doing when it comes to audio playback.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive
Cons
  • A number of factors
