This is a great tripod head! Keep in mind that it has a very different function than the ball head and is not as quick to use, but if you need a ball head, you get a ball head. I use this regularly for 360 panoramas and can adjust the horizontal rotation very easily so I don't miss a single point. I also use it regularly with my iOptron Skytracker for astrophotography. While I could use a ball head with it, I found it much easier to set up polar alignment for long exposures without having to set up my entire telescope kit. It's always in my camera bag for both landscape photography and celebrity parties. Weight-wise, this thing is sturdy (read: heavy at just over 3 pounds) and will therefore hold quite a bit of weight without risking sagging. . The maximum I've tried is around 8.5 pounds (with the telescoping mechanism), and it handled that with ease. It's rated at 5 kg (11.1 lbs) and will hold up to pretty much anything you want to put on it. All in all this is a fantastic addition to any photographer's tripod and I would highly recommend it. I've had mine since 2009 and it still works as perfect as day one and is still my Manfrotto tripod head.
