Great build quality, a bit pricey.

As with most Manfrotto units the price is a bit unacceptable but if you can get over that you get a very good unit. I use it on my Geekoto tripods (which I also recommend) and it fits perfectly but will work on any tripod with a 3/8 screw. The level of precision you can achieve with this head is insane. I think that's good, right?! The build quality is excellent, it feels strong in the hand but feels solid like a tank. Quick-release knobs make large adjustments easy, allowing you to get closer…

Very accurate. Suitable for tripods and monopods

!You get what you pay for. This is not a cheap investment. I'm a real estate agent and I take my own photos. This requires the ability to align lines quickly to get good photos. You can see in my short video that when the spirit level says your camera is level, it is level! The head is very solid, there's no plastic in the body, and I like the added bubble level when shooting bathroom portraits. It feels like it should last a lifetime. Any cons, not really, just that the dials are hard to turn,

It's hard on my wallet but I don't regret it.

Over the years I've used the excellent Acratech ball head mostly for architectural work, but this Manfrotto 405 head is just what I needed. The pens are very precise and blend into your internal screen grid (I'm using a Canon 5ds), no "close enough I'll smooth that out in Photoshop" and you know who you are. This is a tool that will make your work easier and more correct the first time, just buy it. The only downside is that it's heavy and you don't want to drop it and break it. UPDATE: After…

Great for taking photos.

I have been using this head for many years. I first had one from my previous employer and when I went there to work for myself I bought it again. We actually had several of them at my employer. We had one that broke after a fall but we sent it in for repair and it was fine again. I can't find another head on the market with a gear that is even remotely inferior in quality. Stay away from the professional head, we also had one at my work and it wasn't as good as this one, just a lot bigger and…

Buy it with Hejnar Long Adapter Plate

The Manfrotto 410 Junior gear head is a great product. This greatly simplifies the final setup of the camera, especially when using a long focal length lens. However, it has one major drawback: It places the camera's optical center about 1 inch to the left of the tripod's center line. It is therefore not suitable for use as a panhead, as parallax errors can occur, especially in indoor panoramas. Luckily, for those using an Arca-Swiss type camera mounting plate, there is an easy fix. Hejnar…

Pretty good gear head

This 405 gear was bought for studio and architectural work. This is the gear head. Gears can lose friction and slip if not properly maintained. Many reviewers of this 405 gear head have reported how brittle the head is. . I keep the head in a foam box when not in use and intend to transport it in this box whenever possible to protect the gears from wear. I wouldn't even bother leaning this head against a wall as it could damage the gears. I would be uncomfortable throwing this in my trunk as it

Precision, strength and a versatile tripod head!

This is a great tripod head! Keep in mind that it has a very different function than the ball head and is not as quick to use, but if you need a ball head, you get a ball head. I use this regularly for 360 panoramas and can adjust the horizontal rotation very easily so I don't miss a single point. I also use it regularly with my iOptron Skytracker for astrophotography. While I could use a ball head with it, I found it much easier to set up polar alignment for long exposures without having to…

Pretty good gear head

Bought this 405 gear head for studio and architectural work. This is a gear head. Gears can lose friction and slip if not properly maintained. Many reviewers of this 405 gear head have reported how brittle the head is. The product was well packaged in a box with a foam cut out that the head fits snugly in. I keep the head in a foam box when not in use and intend to ship it in this box whenever possible to protect the gears from wear. I wouldn't even bother leaning this head against a wall as it

Accurate camera control like never before LOVE IT

I am a professional photographer and have recently used a Nikon 200-500 zoom lens and needed to upgrade my tripod head to something more precise when positioning at full speed. Magnification without noticeable camera shake that would be noticeable with film. This Manfrotto 410 Junior transmission paired with a 120-30 pillar spacer is just what I needed! Very easy to install (requires a thin flathead screwdriver to seal) a dream to work with with no noticeable wobble, shake or head vibration…
