The Manfrotto 410 Junior gear head is a great product. This greatly simplifies the final setup of the camera, especially when using a long focal length lens. However, it has one major drawback: It places the camera's optical center about 1 inch to the left of the tripod's center line. It is therefore not suitable for use as a panhead, as parallax errors can occur, especially in indoor panoramas. Luckily, for those using an Arca-Swiss type camera mounting plate, there is an easy fix. Hejnar Photo manufactures a long adapter plate designed to place the camera's optical center directly over the center axis of the tripod. Maybe one day Manfrotto will see the problem and make a longer plate himself. In the meantime, panorama photographers can contact Heinar for a solution to this problem.
