Paradise for amano shrimp + they look amazing!

I have read that they are great for shrimp but have never used them before. Now I can confirm that my Amano shrimp love them and walk/nibbling on them all the time. They form a nice biofilm relatively quickly in a planted aquarium and also look great. To prepare them, I soaked them in purified aquarium water. I simply placed them in a red single cup (I bought small chopsticks), filled it with purified water, wrapped the cup in cling film and placed a small coffee saucer on top to make sure the wood stayed submerged. The next day the water clearly leached some of the tannins from the wood as the water was light brown. I poured out all the water and then pushed them lightly into the bottom of the aquarium; no one showed up. After a few days I saw a film begin to form on them. The holes on them also make them great for wrapping something like moss around. I wrapped one of these in Christmas moss the other day and I'm sure my Amanos will be delirious when it's fully grown.

Pros
  • Attracts surface biofilm/feeds fish and shrimp
Cons
  • Something else
