The middle part seems superfluous

What a simple but effective piece of furniture. My 3 month old loves napping in the corners of this thing. I bring my kitty to the office every day so she stays there all the time. I used some 90 degree brackets to attach it to the wall next to my desk. It worked really well and my little girl just climbs and jumps right into her little private space several times a day. Recently one of her playmates was visiting and they were both hanging out in a hole that was too cute not to photograph (included). It's starting to get too big for the hole as it's closed on one side as it's against the wall. That's why she has to try a little to turn around while jumping. I've noticed that she's been hovering around the top more often now, and I think that's most likely why. I'll probably take the saw from both sides to split it in two. The middle part seems a bit empty, so this way I can make two layers where she can still hide in the lower part. I think if the cardboard ever wears out I now have two brand new sides to turn on. You can definitely feel that the cardboard used is of higher quality than some other scrapers. I doubt it will wear out anytime soon and I'll probably live in it for a few years. I also like the design. Doesn't really stand out and several people have already complimented me without knowing that it is a cat scratching post. Fifty dollars is a lot for cardboard. But it looks good and will probably last a while so it's definitely worth it.
