Discreet lighting control is a must for smart home integration

My old house is full of ceiling fans with a single circuit connected through a wall switch. Some have OEM remotes to control the functions, but each has a button to turn the light on. I bought a Bond Home device last year to "study" RF signals and control fans with Alexa. Bond tries to remember the state of the light to keep it in sync with your actions. This eventually fails when someone uses an OEM remote to toggle the lights. What I needed was a remote control with discrete on/off commands that Bond could learn. I had never heard of Yukihalu, but for less than $15 for a remote control and receiver, I had to try it. Pros: Separate on and off buttons for lighting control Standard 433MHz transmitter (can be learned from Bond Home and Broadlink RM4 Pro) Solid state fan control - relay does not click when adjusting speed Relatively small receiver - fits easily into the "Huggerโ€ fan hood Mounting bracket Decent range โ€“ controllable from several rooms even without an antenna protruding from the receiver. The remote control is powered by standard AA batteries. A code learning function that can be run without access to the receiver. positive tactile sensations when pressed. The labels on the buttons are located and written correctly :) Cons: No dimmer function. Perhaps a later version will add up and down buttons to control the brightness of the light, but I've never been impressed with LEDs that dim based on the voltage setting, so that feature doesn't matter to me. The receiver will beep when any button on the remote is pressed and twice when the fan stops. - no loud beep, but unnecessary after initial installation. The remote control weighs a little more than the built-in AA batteries. Weird: I first learned the bond home button before installing the receiver (to make sure the frequency was detected). After installation I had to relearn the keys. I'm not sure what caused the code change, but it only took me 5 minutes to relearn using the Bond Home app and everything is fine now.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Not everything fits
