Review on JUKI MO654DE Portable Thread Machine by Linda Diaz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I sew every day - that's my job!

sewing daily. I mainly work with fleece, flannel and minky. All articles with a very high proportion of fluff. I have been sewing for about 14 years, 11 of them as a professional. I have changed 3 Brother 1034D sergers in the last 2 years. I was fed up with changing my car and opted for a small upgrade instead. This car is just great, but it has a few downsides. What I didn't like: The sewing foot is on the back of the machine. It was my fault for not checking before buying, but it's a very bad place for what I sew. I was looking for ways to modify it to bring it forward or in size. If you like presser foot lifters behind the foot, then that's no problem. - Do not sew with the door open. It's a safety feature but I'm used to having my machine oiled and cleaned with the ability to press on the foot to move the innards for better access. You can still move them manually, but I want them to be free to move. While they claim to move a little faster than my previous surfers, they're not. It takes me an average of 7 seconds longer to complete a task. It might not sound like much, but it takes a total of 35 seconds to get most of my tasks onto this machine, so that's a lot of extra time. This serger almost always pulls to the left. It may just be my machine and it's very light, but unless I constantly guide the fabric with my hands close to the presser foot, it will eventually pull to the left and separate from the fabric. Most of my seams are 12 inches or smaller, so I haven't contacted Juki to see if the problem is with my machine or all machines of this model. Please note when purchasing. What I liked: price. This machine is very cheap for what it is. A level higher than the introductory overlocks, of course. This machine is very quiet compared to almost every other serger I've tried. but it's quiet enough that I can hear my music/podcasts/people talking to me as I sew. I've been using it for 7 months now and haven't had any problems with it. Given the emphasis I put on it, it's designed for an industrial machine, which it isn't, it's very impressive, it cuts through multiple layers of fleece, flannel, cotton and mink with no problems or complaints.Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. Let's see how this goes in years 1 and 2!
