I was having a little trouble figuring out the batteries, how to open the case, which side is up etc. When I installed the marker on one of my devices I installed it with the colored lines up but it did he 't. the best way if you want to hear them. It is best if the colored lines are facing down and the large hole is facing up. This works either way, but the audio goes through a large channel so it's best to keep it unobstructed. If it's hanging on your keys etc, it doesn't matter. I have had the opportunity to use the device twice since purchasing it and it has worked well both times. I like it.
