Review on EBags Mother Weekender Convertible Backpack: Versatile Casual Daypacks with Added Style by Patrice Lippmann

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Innovative flexible bag but not designed to carry significant weight

This travel backpack bag has the features you would expect from a leading luggage company including durable fabric and zippers, lots of flexible packaging options, multiple handles. , reasonably comfortable shoulder straps, storage space for shoulder straps and even a zipper to open/compress. These features are highlighted in the promotional video and were very noticeable. Unfortunately, in actual use, the bag failed me in two critical areas: 1. The hip belt doesn't support the weight at all (like any good backpack) 2. Chest. The strap only attaches with a compressed metal fitting that broke on my first use. Both of these disadvantages put the entire weight of the bag on your shoulders, so it can't be used with a significant weight like 20 pounds total, although it's otherwise fine for packing things that weigh slightly more. So I sent the bag back and deducted two stars from a 5 star rating. Two more comments that didn't make it into my review. The straps do not fully compress the top compartment. Therefore, if you fill this compartment, you will likely exceed the required 9-inch depth. I solved this by buying a set of extra luggage straps and using them to further compress the middle of the bag. Zelta Ripstop Utility Utility Travel Case Packing Strap Ratche Strap with Side Clip Clip, 74" x 2" x 2 (Black) - The bag features an innovative water bottle holder that folds into a zippered compartment. However, this mount doesn't provide enough support for a typical 0.5 liter water bottle, so was unusable. If eBags strengthened the waist strap and strengthened the chest straps, I would happily buy these again. Without these fixes, I advise against buying if you don't know that your overall weight will be light, or if you can comfortably carry a large, heavy weight on your shoulders alone.
