Review on Optimized Rolling Laptop Case by AmazonBasics by Lance Gunn

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good first impression! - Updated

Update 18 months later: Bag still going strong. I thought it might only last 6 months but I'm glad I was wrong. I would say that the wheels have normal signs of wear, the handle doesn't move that easily and the bottom is quite scratched. But nothing is exposed and all seams are held. I wasn't particularly careful with him either. Just normal use and I didn't think to bother with it. I usually carry around 1530 pounds of stuff (laptops, pens, files) with me so I feel like checking them out. For €40 you can't go wrong with this bag. I reckon it will easily last another 612 months. --------------------------------- -------- ----- ---- --------------- Original review: Ordered on Wednesday evening and got to me by noon on Friday. Revain, you did it again! So, a little background. I'm more or less a salesman. In addition to the 16-inch laptop, I have another screen of about the same size and weight. Padfolio for taking notes, giving away pens, taking my files, customer files and basically my office with me. I injured my shoulder, so carrying a bag over my shoulder was very painful. I needed something to rotate while my shoulder was resting. At that price I figured it would be a one-off if it turned out to be a shitbag. So far, first impressions are positive. --- Overall Size --- It is a little thicker than my normal shoulder bag and a little larger. I say the curb weight is about 35 pounds and it's quite a lot of shoulder carrying space --- Storage --- Roomy. The first section (small front pocket) can be opened quite wide. You can see it in the photos. I used a dollar bill so you can get an idea. However, the small dividers in the bag are a joke. I wish they had made the section smaller and the pockets larger. In the middle part there is a special place for a laptop. Fits my 16 inch laptop and extra screen. Nice touch by adding some padding to the bottom of this piece. I think it will provide some protection if you drop it a bit. Didn't do a hard drop test. Next to the laptop compartment there is extra space for my notepad and files. It's quite big. However, it shares space with the 3rd part of the bag. See photos. The third section contains a pen. I took the photo at the top of this section with the handle removed and closed. You can see it sticking out a little. It's kinda weird to watch. But I don't expect to ever put my pen down, so it doesn't matter. But just wanted to note it. I need it to function and not look flawless. There's a little more room here, but the funny thing is that the divider between sections 2 and 3 isn't seeded all the way to the ground. So if you put something small in it, it can just be rolled into the 2nd section of the bag. It's not clear why they designed it that way. But this is not a problem for me since I plan to store folders in this partition. But if you're carrying a lot of small items and need to organize them, I would put them in ziplock bags beforehand. --- Mechanics and material --- Solid. The outer shell feels solid, the wheels roll well and the grip is nice. As for the handle, when pulled out to its full length it comes down to my belly button and I'm just over 5ft 8in tall. The ride was quite pleasant. I haven't fully downloaded it yet, but the trial runs look decent. The wheels take up very little space in the third compartment of the bag. However, your contents will be protected by a piece of hard plastic between the wheel and the bag, so I do not expect any damage to your items. There is only a thin fabric between the bag and the handle, which runs inside the bag to the bottom. I would take care if you are carrying delicate items. Finally, I would name the price. At $35, I consider this bag a one-time use. It's not like I have $35 to throw away, but I feel like it's quite valuable. I was concerned that another review indicated the wheel wouldn't last as long. However, since my travels mostly involve parking lots and office buildings, I figured I'd give it a go. I will update if the wheel breaks down for the light amount of "towing" I would do. That would be a pretty big mistake if he could handle the rides in the parking lot. The time will show.
