Review on 🧡 DMC COLORCRD Needlework Threads: 12-Page Printed Color Card for Enhanced SEO by Dawn Fischer

An indispensable tool for some projects.

First, I find some of the negative reviews about mismatched colors unfair and have little to do with this product. If your thread is wrapped around something with a color number, you don't need this chart. If you only make cross stitch kits, you don't need this pattern. If you are looking to buy yarn in bulk and many of them are not color coded, this chart will be an indispensable resource for you. It's also a good idea to have yarn made by someone other than DMC to customize their colors. Color matching is not an exact science. it is an approximate tool. Color batches change over the years, and even if we go to the store with a color we know how many, we often find that what's hanging on a pin isn't the same. Over the years, the numbers have changed and even assigned a different color. My wife just embroidered a number for a polar bear that we didn't have and we noticed that it is now pale green. It's all about getting close to the correct color and for a more accurate match you should use no more than 2 strands (each strand has 6 strands so cut a piece and pull out 2 strands) as a whole strand is darker than just a strand or two and that's pretty much what people get wrong in photos when they say the colors don't match... try it yourself and you'll probably see the difference. We use a lot of vintage yarns and old patterns so we should have bought this years ago...regardless of the price. The lack of real thread on the colors is not a problem as the colors will fade and the numbers will change. If we're working with a template that has a color number that we don't have, it's very easy to pull it out and see what it is and then we can determine if we need to replace anything. Essentially, you're painting a picture with filament, not paint, so getting an exact color isn't always necessary, as long as the colors used fit the scene. This is definitely better than our old way of using a computer. We've done many home renovations and if you've ever tried to get an exact color match, or even one that matches the color chart you just pulled off the store wall, then you know what I mean. Colors may also vary depending on the light source used. This works for us, but it's not perfect because the colors don't match perfectly, and saying the card doesn't show the correct match on the skein can also mean that the color on the skein doesn't exactly match the card .
