This gadget has saved me so much time. I had to cut the ribbon and then attach both ends of the ribbon to the lighter to seal it. Now one button does the sealing and cutting at the same time. I have used it with very thick bodices and thinner bodices and it has worked beautifully. Thicker tape will require you to hold down the button longer. As mentioned, you'll have to wait until you hear a faint click to know it's been cropped. If you don't hear it, press and hold the button. About 5-7 seconds for thicker tapes, 2-3 seconds for thinner tapes. If there is residue on the wire, without tape, press the button for 20-30 seconds and it will clean (like a self-cleaning oven, it will burn anything stuck to it). The burning/sealing will leave an odor from the tape material and if you are sensitive to this wear a mask or similar. I use ribbons for homemade masks and when an order of 80 masks comes in, it's no longer a problem to cut that many ribbons.
