Previous purchase of such units lasted about a year. Mine are exposed to the weather and eventually water gets in and destroys them. The manufacturer recommends not placing them where they will be exposed to the elements, but I find that difficult. Right after I installed this unit we got 4 inches of rain and after a week it's still working. I have five units that completely surround my house and no one knows they are fake. These flashing lights really grab people's attention. It takes less than 5 minutes to swap out, so spending $100 a year seems like cheap insurance to me. However, I wanted someone to make a device that was waterproof.
