To me they don't feel much heavier than standard glasses. It's great to be able to just turn the magnifying glass over instead of changing my reading glasses every ten minutes, or worse, wearing oversized glasses that barely fit my readers and fog up too easily. And the price is reasonable enough to buy extra pairs for if you lose the magnifying head, which while reasonably well made, still catches things and is easy to shoot, especially when it's upside down. I was a little confused about the 1.5/2.5 ratio. diopter jargon. I vaguely understand the difference between magnification and diopter. This seems to primarily affect the magnification range, as the degree of magnification varies between two differences the further you are from what you are looking at: 1.5x magnification is sharper at 5-8ft than 1.5 diopters for the same clarity in a distance of 1-2 meters. At distances of 5 to 8 feet, 1.0 diopter would be closer to 1.5 mag. However, these glasses have almost the same magnifying power as my 2.5x readers in terms of near reading acuity. So, I'm at a loss as to why they only claim 1.5hp. Regardless, they currently serve my needs well in that department. Any work outside of the outstretched hand becomes blurred. But you just turn them around and move on. These are not bifocals. The flip-up lens fully magnifies, which makes it so ideal for those who only need something for close-up, not far, vision compared to other alternatives. Haven't used them in the summer yet, but based on just a couple of warm winter days here in the humid south, I suspect a headband will make all the difference in warm weather unless you leave the AC on. The nosepiece has no rubber to keep it from slipping off your nose when you start sweating. It may even be for the best, as flexible rubber parts tend to come loose, while solid parts tend to dissolve in your sweat after the season in the salt. Unfortunately, if you press them against your face, they'll get a little cloudy, even if you're not perspiring noticeably. A foam or rubber attachment that keeps the lenses farther from the brows will likely alleviate this problem significantly. Ideally though, I would also like them to be offered with a foam insert that conforms to the face and completely surrounds each lens. I fell in love with them while riding my motorcycle as not only do they not easily fog up from sweat but they also protect the eyes from air which would be extremely helpful in areas where wearing a dust mask along with goggles is common. . .
