I got this to use as a journal and it's just gorgeous--almost too pretty to "mess up" with my writing. I did find that the pages were a little more absorbant than I expected, which doesn't affect regular ball point pens or pencils but makes using a fountain pen a little tricky. Also--it seems best to write with either black ink or a pencil because of the vibrant colors of the pages. It is definitely a lovely journal, though, and particularly well suited to pencil or even charcoal drawings. This would be a great gift for a budding artist--it's almost too good for someone like me who basically just writes.
