Cotton would be the best material as patching is usually made for.

Very nice. My daughter actually holds it compared to the patch we bought from the optometrist. My only issue is that it is made of felt which is very hot. Cotton would be the best material as the repair is usually done within 2 hours. We use it in combination with the Amblyo goggles and it fits well, but it stops a bit due to the wide part of the nose.
