I bought this product for my 85-year-old mother-in-law who wears a collar every day. She has neck spurs and her doctor told her (many years ago) that a collar was needed to prevent hunching/bending over and to relieve pressure on sensitive areas. Their old ones were too worn, so I looked to Revane for replacements. The first one I bought was also Duro-Med, but it was "Firm". It was too stiff for her, so I ordered the Duro-Med "SOFT" neck foam collar. The word "soft" is not just a description of the manufacturer, but a statement of the stiffness of the collar. The width (2 1/2 inches) is perfect for her petite size (about 5 feet) and the medium size is perfect for her neck. Even with daily wear, it will last at least 3-4 years. When buying a collar, look for three things: 1) stiffness, 2) width (taller people need more width), and 3) size (circumference) depending on the neck circumference around. Neck 15 inches = medium.
