I really wanted to love this lens. I liked the pictures I got with it. The bokeh was extremely soft, the "velvet" effect at larger apertures was a nice effect when I wanted it (just turn it down a bit to tame it, f/4 to reduce it a lot, f/8 to get rid of it fully). I really liked the full manual controls. The bezel has soft stops rather than hard stops, so you can seamlessly transition from one bezel to the next for video if you want to. However, after a few days of using the lens, I noticed a smudge on the pair. macro photography. I haven't removed the lens since I got it so I just cleaned the outer glass and tried again. Still there. I removed the lens and looked at the rear element and noticed that it was covered in what I would call small black chips. A bit concerned, I cleaned them (very carefully), checked again to make sure nothing was showing, put the lens back on and tried again. The spots are still there. took off the lens and looked at the rear element and found even more chips. I think they came from the black coating on the inside of the lens wearing off when the lens was focused back and forth. The points come from a few points hitting the sensor (checked with a sensor loupe). Needless to say, I'm a little upset about this. I'm sure it will stop flaking eventually, but I already have to clean the sensor and don't want to deal with any more shavings until it finally stops flaking.
