Review on Led Light Bulbs Watt Equivalent by Max Stallworth

Greening America

A change in the law required the replacement of incandescent light bulbs with more energy efficient technologies. You don't have to have an engineering degree to know that's not smart (although I have one). You only have to pay your electricity bill all year round. If you do this, you will find that the energy used for lighting is negligible compared to the energy used to move heat - air conditioning, heating and refrigerator operation. The electric stove is another big energy consumer. Accordingly, I consider the need for alternative light bulbs to be uneconomical and politically one-sided. LED bulbs cost at least 5 times more than incandescent bulbs and last longer, but not 5 times longer. At least I don't think so. They also have a different color of light, which is sometimes unacceptable from an aesthetic point of view. The LED bulbs I bought in this batch actually use less power - they're rated at 10W and are almost as bright as regular 60W bulbs. (The claim that they have the same brightness is an exaggeration in my opinion.) Also, the batch I bought had uneven color. Some of the samples were quite yellow which I didn't care while others were more of a white color. I'm sure later batches will have better quality control. When you turn on the dimmer, they vary greatly in brightness. Needless to say, I'd rather do away with that rule and go back to incandescent bulbs. The good side: they fit into the same sockets in existing fixtures. As we need to replace our old lightbulbs with something similar when they burn out, I rate this as satisfactory.
