My wife has these big blue ones and she loves them and they have served her well for years! I took the XL because my calves are bigger. And I'm glad I have the XL, they fit this range very well, unfortunately due to the larger size, the front boot clip is outdated. It cannot be used with any of my boots, even with the built in gaiter clip. My boot is too big and I wear a men's American 10.5. I would return them if I didn't need them to climb Mount Fuji this week. These gaiters protected my boots from most rocks and debris, but if I could attach the front of the gaiter to my boot I don't think any debris would get into my boots. Also, one gaiter had a cut when I got it, not a big deal, but for $50+ I didn't expect it to need repairs upon arrival. I've used them and can't return them, but I think I'll use the regular store if I decide I need another pair.
