Review on Enhance Your Vinyl Sound with Ortofon Replacement Stylus 10 by Scott Ward

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Definitely an improvement over the 5e

I've noticed that there are a number of questions about the difference in sound quality between the om5e and om10 replacement styluses. There are subtle differences between 5e and 10.A. 10 - 1.5 grams; 5e is 1.75 grams tracking force B. The cantilever on the model 10 is thinner than the model 5e, so it's thinner. Although both tips use a bonded shank to hold the diamond tip and use an 8 x 18 micron ellipse, the shank is thinner which allows more vibration to be transmitted to the cantilever. Sound creates more detail and channel separation because less material transmits more vibrations to the cantilever. Magnet. With the Project, U-turn and other entry-level audiophile turntables, you'll likely hear the difference. You must set the downforce using the dial on the plug and play turntables. Other turntables with lightweight die-cast aluminum platters that are hollow at the bottom can cause reflections that can spoil detail, so I'm not sure I can recommend them unless you have a thick platter mat. You can get away with an extra plate with a free-floating aluminum plate. All in all, a worthwhile stylus for about $15 more.

Pros
  • Recommended tracking force 1.5g
Cons
  • Very expensive
