Working but mandrel pulled out

I bought this threading tool, in some parts we do 15-30 threaded holes per part which is a pain when you do batch of parts . This is the first attachment I've used so I can't compare it to the more expensive ones. But I found it fairly easy to set up reasonable torque for threading 4-40, 6-32, and 1/4-20 through holes without much risk - I just broke a tap in the part while working up the learning curve - and such far hundreds of holes drilled. Don't expect to learn how to set things up from the manual - it's not very detailed. I have found that it is safest to run the attachment very slowly at 400 rpm. The only problem I have is that the tapered friction fit doesn't hold the bit on the mandrel. This fit is good for drilling, but when the tap is pulled back, the resistance of pulling the tap will cause the cone connection to break. I have now used a third party mandrel to mount my router/drill as the 1/2" straight shank was not supplied and may not have been as strong as the ones that came with the bit. The nozzle removed the mandrel several times and I pushed the mandrel into the nozzle and continued working. After that I found that the mandrel was not seated properly and was scratching both the male and female parts of the cone. I did my best to smooth out the tapered faces, but knew the centering wasn't perfect and the connection would easily come loose. So I glued the mandrel to the nozzle and hoped for the best. Fortunately, the nozzle can handle some displacement. still cuts well for these screw sizes at low speed.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • I really have no complaints about it everything is fine
