We were hiking with our bikes and our bike rack kept having pins falling out. To prevent this, it is often recommended to attach the pins to a bungee cord post or zip tie so they cannot come loose. That's exactly why I got it. When I received them I was immediately disappointed with the thickness/width. I unknowingly thought that all 12" zip ties were the same width and thickness as I've always bought a certain type from the big store over the years. They seemed very slim, and I wondered if they could handle the rebound and flex of a hitch-mounted bike rack with four bikes bouncing/wiggling hundreds of miles. I didn't have enough confidence in them to use them on the street; they seemed to bend easily and break easily. Instead I used tightly wrapped elastic bungee. I use them for wire/cable routing but personally I wouldn't trust them too much if you need tensile strength. Or at least avoid what I did and pay attention to the measurements given.
