These look nice, but are much looser than expected for the size. My son is an average sized boy, and he had to really cinch up the waist. The fabric is a bit odd feeling, but nothing that would make him not want to wear them. I doubt I would describe them as "athletic” shirts, but more like regular shorts that you can play sports at recess in, or something. What athletic shorts have belt loops? They almost have a dressier vibe than a sporty one, at least in looks. While the sizing may be off, mostly I feel that these are a good pair of shorts.
