Review on ๐ŸŽง SoundMAGIC Aux Earbuds: Ergonomic Comfort-Fit with Volume Control & Built-in Mic - iPhone/Android/MP3/MP4 Compatible by Sarah Gonia

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Still the best budget IEMs I've heard.

This is my third pair of SoundMAGIC monitors. (They're accurate enough that I've used them as IEM headphones on stage.) My original 2009 PL30s still work but will soon be phased out. My dog ate the 2nd pair (E10 - they were good but I didn't like them as much as PL30). We haven't broken in yet, but so far we're ready, so far so good. The soundstage is wide and deep, and there's clarity. I'm not a basshead but I feel like they spend a lot. (The last minute of Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Upโ€ is one of my challenges.) Vocals are important to me; this works well with really wide dynamic range stuff like Alison Krauss and King's Singers. No noticeable distortion. We'll see how the run-in goes and I'll update, but so far there hasn't been a better offer. One caveat: the original PL30s had a bass control on the headphones. Promotional materials say they work too, but they don't. If it's not hidden. Second, I appreciate that they now come with foam inserts - much better than silicone ones, IMO. These aren't Comply foam pieces, but they're close. (I have a Comply and was able to compare them: The Comply has a built in retaining ring at the base of the audio channel.)
