Review on Toshiba 2TB Canvio Basics USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive - High-Speed Storage Solution by David Schweigert

The odd shape of the connectors in the drive.

I bought it over two years ago. I use it as a backup for my internal hard drive. When I bought it I was skeptical about its quality because firstly it was the cheapest disc I could find at the time and secondly I saw too many cheap discs that were falling apart too quickly. But I needed him and the money wasn't that much. When I got it I checked. My first thought was that it's pretty well done. The cable was a bit short, but that's ok. Then I saw the type of connector that fits into the drive. It's anything but universal. I think they made it so you can only use their cable, not the universal cable. I thought that maybe it's designed that way because it needs to have a high transfer rate and the other cable slows it down. Well, I plugged it in and Windows recognized it right away. I started the transfer. It was one of the slowest transfer speeds of any hard drive I've ever owned. After a few uses, something happened to the cable where it connects to the drive. I have to leave the cable in the drive to keep it plugged in. I think it's the cable, not the socket in the drive. Since this is not a universal cable, I cannot easily switch cables. To use it, I have to place the hard drive on a table and put something on the cable to apply pressure or release the connection. When I use it, putting the cable under my laptop usually helps. Two years later, the new Windows 8.1 hard drive is still working. Next time I'll spend a little more money or at least make sure that there are universal plugs.
