Appearance and quality: Beautiful bedside table, ideal for me. Solid wood is much nicer and doesn't smell like many other materials. Assembly: Quick and easy assembly, but I did have a small battery powered drill/screwdriver set and a handy ruler to set the bottom shelf exactly where I wanted it. . I always drill pilot holes for screws because I've split wood several times in the past without pilot holes. It would be quicker to assemble if the shelf's screw holes were pre-drilled, but then you would have to decide where to place the shelf. For me personally, the lack of pilot holes was not a problem. Unfinished Comment: I have a few unfinished pieces of furniture that have been unfinished for about 20 years and they are fine. I do not bring food and drink into the room where I have these items. I personally like untreated wood.
