Review on SPT SH-1507 Mini-Tower Ceramic Heater by Sunpentown: Compact & Efficient Heating Solution by Terence Vaz

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good heating as long as it works.

This heater didn't quite live up to my expectations. Now let's start with the good that is definitely there. It has a great heating capacity and really heats up the room. We used it all winter and the problem will be discussed later, it works the same as when purchased. It looks pretty crisp and doesn't take up much space, and the wiggle feature is handy. The kill switch works great when it's tipped over. Now for a couple of negatives that didn't affect the rating: It would be nice if it had a thermostat. Or maybe more power output control than one or two. Now the big minus of this heater is that it is a fan. The fan is really weak. Bad design had to have a better motor for what otherwise looks like a well-made heater. The motor spins so slowly that it doesn't dissipate enough heat, and the overheating sensor shuts the device down. I even took it apart thinking there might be something obvious wrong, but just a cheap motor. Now there is a trick that can make this heater usable, what to do, first put the heater on the "fan" and let it run for a while, it will heat up the engine and after a few minutes it will pick up speed. Then you can set the heater to "1" or "2" and it will work all night. But when it's the middle of the night and the room gets a little chilly, it's a hassle to turn on the fan, wait a few minutes, and then turn on the heater. By then you are fully awake. This heater came so close to being a great buy, but the cheap fan motor is annoying and I don't recommend it unless you mind going through the procedure mentioned above before using it each time.

Pros
  • High test results for hold and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
