Revainrating 5 out of 5

I did a lot of research and read a lot of rave reviews about this set before ordering and I have to say I'm very impressed!

I did a lot of research and read many rave reviews about this set before ordering and I have to say I am very impressed and happy! This kit replaces the 7.1 speakers that came in the box with my Onkyo home theater which you can see here: https://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-SKS-HT540-Channel-Theater-Speaker/dp/ B000GU78Z4?ie=UTF8&SubscriptionId=AKIAJ3NOW7JKGQLTEY4A&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B000GU78Z4&linkCode=xm2&tag=cnet-api-20. My 10 year old Onkyo to HDMI receiver is still fine, but I've never been 100% satisfied with the speakers that came with it. The Energy 5.1 Take Classic 5.1 system is AMAZING to my critical ears! All 4 small satellites are identical so you know the sound coming from behind is just as bright and rich as the sound coming from the front. The Onkyo satellites, while larger and more functional, look dirty in comparison. The Onkyo surround sound system only had one speaker, so background noise was limited to what that midrange speaker could muster. The center speaker contains the same speaker array as the satellites, but has two front-facing connectors instead of the satellites' single rear-facing connector. to have. This allows you to increase the dynamic range from which the dialogue and most of the sound in your movie comes. All Energy satellites have a clear and bright presence. Although this 5.1 system replaces the 7.1 setup, I don't miss the two extra rears one bit. Two Energy Surround satellites have far more rear presence than four large Onkyo surround speakers. I no longer have to go to the people around me to make sure they are doing something. I hear random music and effects from behind that I've never heard before! At the beginning of Monsters, Inc., where we are brought to the company's doorstep for the first time, between the characters' conversations, I hear the unmistakable sound of the building's air conditioning in the background! What I didn't know before was there! I need to watch all my old favorite movies and relive them! The bass speaker is the real star of the show here. My living room, about 18 feet by 16 feet, opens onto the dining room. which then leads around the corner into the kitchen, so the Energy speakers have to cover a lot of ground and fill with air. Don't be fooled by the fact that the bass has an eight-inch downward-firing driver. This little girl rocked the whole house! It's smaller than the Onkyo bass it replaced, but I've never had such a nice deep tone and amazingly full rumble in my movies before I got the Energy system! Whether it's the powerful slow motion of a Star Wars battleship on screen or the incredibly deep bass of my favorite music, this miniature bass speaker is an absolute delight for the home. Deep, deep bass can be heard in my 1,200-square-foot home - once again, something I've never had before and thought would cost three or more times more. Installing the Energy speakers only took a few minutes as I had already wired the room from the previous set. The Onkyo receiver allows me to manually adjust each speaker's volume - there's no automatic microphone system. The speaker calibration on the Onkyo receiver allows the speakers to be adjusted from 1 to 12. I left all the smaller cubes at 9 and had to lower the bass to a 9 from a 10 in the previous set. I then had to lower the treble from 8 to 6 and keeping the bass at 4 I then adjusted the Energy Low Pass Filter control between 90 and 100 Hz. It seemed like the perfect balance of bass and satellites. Too much higher and the vocals start to sound a bit boomy. I set the Energy bass level slider to 7 (out of 12, so I guess Onkyo isn't the only one using "12"). than maximum speaker calibration), which gives me enough punch and buzz without overdoing the bass. If you want to pump that pup up because you feel like banging on glasses, go ahead and crank it up to 12! I like a more balanced take that only shows its amazing depth when the music or movie calls for it. I leave the bass output on automatic. The small blue LED indicator on the front will illuminate during use and turn off approximately 15 minutes after no sound is detected. I placed it about a foot from the front left corner of my living room. It's hidden behind the last table of the side sofa, so the blue light doesn't bother me (which some here have complained about). I absolutely recommend the Energy 5.1 Take Classic System to anyone who has a receiver and a critical ear. Your music will finally satisfy you and your movies will surprise you. Take your time to get the parameters right. There is an important button that turns on the bass module to match your receiver's settings. You will get up and off the couch a few times for the first few days, to make small adjustments - that's to be expected with any new system, but the rewards are definitely there. The Energy manual recommends a break-in period where it is recommended to play broad dynamic music at normal volume for the first 50 hours. While I understand the need (speakers are moving objects, glue, fasteners and foam that change shape and therefore sound if they loosen up a bit after first use), I'd say you could just do them for the first few days play as often as possible. If you have very critical hearing, you may still need to make some adjustments during and after the break-in period. This is also normal. I am very happy with my purchase and would recommend this speaker to anyone who loves great sound. You may still need to make some adjustments during and after the break-in period.
