Review on πŸ”¦ Kichler 38171 Distressed Semi Flush Mount Light Fixture, 3 Lights, in Black Metal and Wood by Stephanie Davis

Beautiful in appearance, good value for money, installation requires common sense

These semi-recessed fixtures are beautiful in appearance and provide plenty of light. We installed it in the kitchen and planned it a little differently than in the instructions. First we laid out all the parts (we bought two) and found that the glass shades are completely different in appearance and wall thickness. There's a touch of bubbles that we really like, but one had small bubbles and the other had very large bubbles. Spring. One had about 1.5 times the wall thickness of the other, making it heavier. Excellent. Well, as other reviewers have pointed out, wall thicknesses can be uneven and so you will inevitably end up with a glass lampshade that leans as it balances on a very small flange secured via a threaded central shaft. We didn't care. The central threaded shaft is adjustable because it is made up of mating parts. So you can definitely get it right, but it's best to do it before you start ceiling mounting. Just do a quick assembly for a trial fit and you can find out how far you need to screw the shaft pieces together so you have enough threads on the end for the flange to seat enough to hold the glass dome. Another important note: we installed the glass lampshade last to make it less dangerous. I hate having the glass cover pre-assembled with the stem and having to maneuver around to connect the mounts and wires. Otherwise nothing excessive for the installation of ceiling lights. Sometimes you have to improvise around the bracket, use different screws, etc. etc. Any homeowner knows what I'm talking about. All in all a pretty satisfactory setup.
