Update about the impossibility of assembly
OK I finally got everything together! Plastic shelf brackets are cheap but can be assembled. When attaching the plastic brackets to the side supports, do not attempt to attach them. You will not. Simply slide the shelf down over the brackets and clamp the shelf in place. This compresses the brackets enough to hold the shelf. Do not lift the unit by the shelves as these (the shelves) would detach from the sides and the unit would fall apart. Lift the unit touching only the side bars. Not the best but I won't be returning it as it fits my space and I put light objects on it.
