I've never used a shaving brush before. Having switched to safety razors for the last few years I have enjoyed a close shave but have had nicks and cuts on a regular basis. I used to apply shaving cream with my hand and it was uneven and I didn't realize it made such a big difference. This shaving brush is economical, lathers well and I have a much better shaving experience after switching to it. Also tried Badger's shaving brush until I encountered animal cruelty and decided to buy this one with synthetic bristles. Looks good to me and serves its purpose
