Review on Cat Furniture Protector Protection Scratching by Kim Bardgett

Better than alternatives

We surfed the internet for hours. We spoke to vets. We bought the best scratching posts and pads made from different materials and placed them all over the house. We even added some catnip to them. But of course the cat prefers to stick its claws into all our brand new furniture in every possible way. This is where these things come into play. They make it almost impossible to scratch the sofa and chairs, and so far they've kept our cute little infernal demon from doing further damage to the furnishings. The slabs are a good size and can easily be cut into the desired shape. Installation is easy and the price was really good compared to other options. Of course, they do not add any aesthetic value to our living room. Made of transparent plastic, they're easy to miss at first glance, but you'll definitely notice them if you get closer than two meters. They have a strong sheen, so they don't reflect light well. Also, the adhesive isn't particularly strong - good for eventual removal from the upholstery - but the panels will inevitably come loose if you bend them around a corner. The included pins help, but we found them only moderately helpful. (I'm not usually interested in putting MORE holes in my furniture. They might work for our knit cushions, but they definitely won't benefit our faux leather sofa.) However, we prefer them to sticky cushions, which always seem to attract dirt and lint and become very unsightly after a few weeks. We hope we can teach the cat to use the scratching posts and stay away from the furniture over the next few months, and then rip those panels off the furniture. They will be fine in the short term, and it's certainly better than giving up and letting the cat rip everything to pieces.
