Reliability with care

I use this pipe lighter and it works great if you take care of it and take some time to learn how it works. When I first got it, I filled it up and immediately started pulling out the match to light it. That was mistake number one. The wick needs time to absorb the lighter fuel before reliably igniting. A little critical thinking would have saved me from disappointment. You also need to keep the wick trimmed. After some use, the end will wear down and harden with carbon, making it fade resistant. Just pull out the wick a bit and cut off the black part to solve this problem. Because of these two errors, it suddenly stopped producing a spark after about a month of use. I disassembled it, checked everything, everything is fine. The flint was still visible, but adjustment and tuning didn't help. As a last resort, I replaced the flint with one of the few spares that come with the lighter, and that's how the lighter burst into life on the first hit. So now I understand that flint wears out pretty quickly with repeated use. It may look like it's still good, but when it stops bubbling it means it's done. Constantly pulling a match to see if it's charged, impressing friends, or doing anything else that will unnecessarily shorten the life of your flint. Everything shows that I love this little lighter. My issues were with user error, not product quality. It looks cool and works great, just take the time to familiarize yourself with it and read the instructions that come with it. This will serve you well.
