My current visualizer is about nine years old and is becoming unreliable. When I received it it was the best in the range, but compared to its characteristics it could well be considered an antique. It worked well enough, but next year I'm moving to a new class and decided to upgrade. I have two use cases for this device that I needed to test before proceeding to review. Works perfectly for both! Some useful features: Metal frame with rubber pad. There is a touch button to adjust the brightness of the six LEDs. The camera is mounted directly on the end of the bracket and the angle can be adjusted up to 90 degrees. note that this will require TWO USB ports on your computer, so plan accordingly. The included software is great too! The camera's image quality is great if you're used to older devices (or cheap cameras). The rug you are using is MUCH larger than shown in the pictures. I'm very glad about that. I was a little worried it might not work on plain letter sized paper just because of the photos, but I knew that A3 is larger. It worked. The document placement lines are clear but unobtrusive. Makes arranging pages for scanning very easy. The material is the same as a regular mouse pad and it doesn't slide around on my desk. Use Case: Document/Camera CamShop software allows you to capture video from a device, but the thumbnail is not large enough to be used as an invoice. camera in the classroom. I found the built-in camera app in Windows 10 to be great for this job. Combine this with SmartInk (included with SmartBoard) and you have the perfect classroom document camera solution. I like it! The camera app uses full-screen mode and can take high-resolution photos (with HDR if desired) and videos with sound. It's perfect for class presentations AND recording sessions to upload to YT for absent students. That's exactly what I needed it for. Very straight forward and the camera app in Win10 does an excellent job. I think I could find other programs that will work, but it suits my needs and at no extra cost! Use two: Document Scanner As a scanner, this is fantastic. The image sharpness is above my expectations. The difference between an 8 megapixel camera and my old 2.5 megapixel document camera is amazing. CamShop software makes it very easy to scan and adjust images. I downloaded the latest version from the iCODIS website. There are several different scanning modes for different types of documents, and the edge detection works very well (especially if you lined it up correctly on the mat). Ability to save in several different formats including PDF with OCR text. No problem. You can scan an entire batch of documents to editable/fillable PDF in just a few minutes. For the summer package, I scanned 27 individual pages and combined them into a PDF. The "image" version was over 50MB and the OCR text version was over 2MB. There were no problems with missing words or misspellings. One of the missing features is the ability to reduce body roll. This is not what you want to use if you plan to scan from a real book. Don't get me wrong, it scans books very well. However, you must first set up the page as flat as possible. Very satisfied with the device as a document scanner. The software is just fantastic. Final impression: I will use it every day in my class. For the price it exceeds all my expectations. I come from a camera which cost over $600 ten years ago and for less than $200 I'm shocked at the quality. I recommend this to any teacher who wants their own document camera to take with them.
